A friendly face, a cup of tea and a chat

Do you know an older person who would like a regular visitor at least once a week? Or

would you like to become a volunteer befriender?

Our befriending programme matches trained and CRB checked volunteer befrienders with local people who can't get out and about easily. Befrienders can offer company, conversation and maybe some practical help with everyday things too.

The visits can often develop into warm friendships and can bring peace of mind to relatives who don’t live locally.  Perhaps you could pick up some shopping for them, post some letters or help with some paperwork.

As you get to know them over a cup of tea and a biscuit, you will be able to pick up on their worries.  It is possible that the Wimbledon Guild may be able to help them further through one of its many services.

Gillian MacLellan, who runs the programme, says
“These visits make a great difference to the lives of the older person as well as the volunteer befriender.  If you know someone who would benefit from a visit, get in touch.”
