Background
Following a need identified in the area, the family therapy service was set up in September 2000 as a pilot of the Wimbledon Guild Counselling Service (WGCS). The service has continued and developed following the pilot to ensure families have access to quality family therapy in the local area.
Aim
Our primary aim is to provide accessible systemic family therapy for persons residing or working in the London Borough of Merton.
What is Systemic Family Therapy?
Family systemic psychotherapy is a collaborative therapeutic process, which seeks to resolve difficulties, concerns and serious worries about patterns of relationships within partnerships, families, wider social groups and contexts.
Systemic psychotherapists think about people in relationship to others. They believe people both influence and are influenced by others within a relationship system. People belong to a number of relationship systems at any given time: family, peer, professional, educational, religious, cultural amongst others.
Systemic Psychotherapists work with all types of people and the systems they are members of, individually, as couples or as families.
