Our Aim
The Wimbledon Guild was set up to help people in need in the Wimbledon area. Needs constantly change, as does the availability of other help, so our activities have adapted over the years. However, our aim remains the same: to care for local people in need.

Background and History
The Wimbledon Guild is one of the larger local charities in the country. It traces its origins to the Charities Organisation Society movement of the 1860/1870s, and it was founded as the Wimbledon Guild of Help in 1907. The Wimbledon Guild provided ‘social services’ before the statutory Social Services were established.

Over recent times, demands for assistance have increased but due to government cutbacks there are fewer resources available to meet those needs. As a result, requests for the Guild’s services and resources have grown, and because of our financial independence we have been able to meet most of those demands. This independence is mainly due to the donations and legacies that have been received over the years through the generosity of the residents of Wimbledon.
