Counselling for young people

The Wimbledon Guild is working with Connexions to offer a specialist counselling service for young people. We will see individuals who are sixteen or over here at Wimbledon Guild, or at the Connexions office, Olympic House, 196 the Broadway.

Why would I talk to a counsellor?
People sometimes want counselling if they are feeling down, are having suicidal thoughts or feelings, have problems at school or at home, feel confused about something, have a difficult decision to make or have behaviours that feel out of control or if they just wish to understand themselves better.

What will a counsellor do?
• Listen to you
• Help you to make sense of what you are feeling so that you understand yourself better
• Help you to get closer to making a decision that you have been finding difficult

What will a counsellor not do?
• Judge you
• Act on your behalf, mediate with others or write letters on your behalf
• Give you advice or tell you what to do

  What does it cost?
Within this scheme counselling is free if you are aged between 16 and 18 years old. If you are over 18 we will ask you to make a contribution towards the cost of counselling – according to what you can afford.

How long will it go on for?
Sessions take place every week, usually at the same day and time of the week. Each session will last for fifty minutes. You can end the counselling at any time if you feel you no longer need it. We will usually offer a maximum of 40 sessions.

Is it confidential?
Yes, but we may have to tell someone if we think it is likely that you or someone else might be at risk. This rarely happens.

What age group is it for?
You have to be 16 or older to apply.

To book a counselling session you need to either phone the Wimbledon Guild Counselling Department on 020 8296 0030 or email our administration department on gvaratharaja@wimbledonguild.co.uk.
