13.1 Reasons to Run for Wimbledon Guild
Mile 1 – No one in Merton should face life’s challenges alone
Wimbledon Guild’s mission is simple but powerful: offering practical help and support so that no one in Merton has to face life's challenges alone. By running for Wimbledon Guild, you help us provide support to people who need it most.
Mile 2 – Tackling poverty at a local level
We provide financial support to individuals and families facing sudden hardship - because unexpected challenges like job loss, rising bills, or essential costs can happen to any of us and Wimbledon Guild will be here to help if it does.
Mile 3 – Mental health support when it’s needed most
We offer a range of Talking Therapies options, offering accessible mental health support for adults across Merton - all for free.
Mile 4 – Fighting loneliness and social isolation
Loneliness is a growing issue, particularly among older residents. At Wimbledon Guild we provide befriending, group activities and community spaces that help people reconnect.
Mile 5 – Supporting older people to live independently
Through exercise classes, wellbeing activities and our dedicated wellbeing support team, we help older people in Merton to stay active, confident and independent for as long as possible.
Mile 6 – A trusted community charity with deep roots
We were founded in 1903, which means we've been supporting local people for more than a century, so you know that any money you raise will be used wisely and effectively to help our community.
Mile 7 – Supporting thousands of people every year
Last year we supported over 4,000 across Merton. But people are more than just a number - we make sure that every person who comes to us receives respectful, personalised care based around their own individual needs.
Mile 8 – A lifeline during tough economic times
With rising cost of living, demand for our services such as welfare grants, counselling and food support has increased. Fundraising helps us continue to adapt our services to meet new and increasing local needs.
Mile 9 – An award‑winning befriending service
We recently achieved the ‘Excellence’ standard in the Quality in Befriending Award in recognition of our commitment to safe, reliable working and building meaningful connections through befriending.
Mile 10 – Strong partnerships across Merton
We work collaboratively with other organisations including Age UK Merton, Merton Council and community groups to make sure that people are connected to the right help at the right time.
Mile 11 – Investing in the future: Guild House refurbishment
At the start of the year we began a major refurbishment of our community hub on Worple Road, creating a modern, accessible community hub that will support Merton residents for generations to come—while keeping all our vital support services running throughout the works.
Mile 12 – Powered by volunteers and community spirit
We have over 140 volunteers who give up their time to help deliver our services. Wimbledon Guild is built on local people helping local people, and your fundraising is part of this spirit of generosity and compassion.
Mile 13 – Your money supports local people
The money you raise for Wimbledon Guild goes towards supporting people living in Merton, so you know that you're making a difference and helping people in your local community.
Mile 13.1 – Because community is worth going the extra mile for
That final 0.1 mile represents hope, kindness and inclusiveness - values at the heart of Wimbledon Guild’s work every single day in Merton.
